Invoking Article 143(1), the President of India sent a reference to the Supreme Court after its 8th April ruling that set timelines for Governors and the President to grant assent to bills passed by legislatures.
“Article 200 of the Constitution cannot be read in a manner which allows the Governor to not take action upon bills which are presented to him for assent and thereby delay and essentially roadblock the law-making machinery in the State”.
The Court expressed hope and trust that the Governor and the Tamil Nadu Government would work in tandem and harmoniously keeping the interests and well-being of the people as their paramount consideration.
