On 19-05-2025, the Supreme Court released a new circular updating the procedures for circulating letters of adjournment of cases, following a letter from SCAORA to the newly appointed Chief Justice of India, Justice B.R. Gavai, on 14-05-2025.
The Supreme Court Advocates-On-Record Association (‘SCAORA’) requested Justice Gavai to consider its requests to alleviate the difficulties faced by the bar members and enable them to contribute to the efficient functioning of the Supreme Court.
“A right of an Advocate to appear for a party and to practice in the Courts is coupled with the duty to remain present in the Court at the time of hearing, and to participate and conduct the proceedings diligently, sincerely, honestly and to the best of his ability. Rights and duties are two sides of the same coin, and they are inherently connected with each other.”
The Bench was dealing with the issue of whether the law and the procedure laid down by the Court regarding the designation of Advocates as Senior Advocates under Section 16 of the Advocates Act, 1961 required reconsideration.
Paper-I (Practice and Procedure of the Supreme Court) of the Advocates-on-Record (AoR) Examination held on 10 June 2024 stands cancelled in view of the technical glitches experienced by candidates appearing for computer-based examination at the examination centre.
