Supreme Court Collegium Recommendations in February 2024

Supreme Court Collegium recommends appointment of Justice NV Anjaria as 34th Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court

On 07-02-2024, the Supreme Court Collegium comprising of Dr Justice DY Chandrachud, the Chief Justice of India, Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice B.R. Gavai recommended the name of Justice NV Anjaria as the next Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court. Justice PS Dinesh Kumar, who was appointed as Chief Justice of the High Court on 31-01-2024, is due to retire on 24-02-2024. Therefore, to fill the future vacancy, the Collegium made the afore-stated recommendation.

Supreme Court Collegium recommends appointment of Permanent Judges for 3 High Courts

On 13-02-2024, the Supreme Court Collegium comprising of Dr Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, the Chief Justice of India, Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice B.R. Gavai resolved to recommend the appointment of Permanent Judges for High Courts of Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab and Haryana.

Supreme Court Collegium accedes to the requests of transfer made by 3 High Court Judges

The Supreme Court Collegium comprising of Dr Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, the Chief Justice of India, Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Justice B.R. Gavai, Justice Surya Kant and Justice Aniruddha Bose on 13-02-2024 recommended the transfer of Justice Moushumi Bhattacharya, Justice Anu Sivaraman and Justice Sujoy Paul.

High Courts

Appointments

There were no appointments of Permanent and Additional Judges for the High Courts in the month of February. However, the Ministry of Law and Justice notified the appointment Chief Justices for 7 High Courts this month.

Centre appoints Chief Justices for 6 High Courts and Acting Chief Justice for Punjab and Haryana High Court

Issuing a slew of Notifications on 02-02-20241, the Ministry of Law and Justice notified the appointment of Chief Justices of 6 High Courts namely- Allahabad, Gauhati, Meghalaya, Rajasthan, Orissa and Uttaranchal.

Furthermore, the Ministry also notified the appointment of Acting Chief Justice for Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Centre appoints Justice N.V Anjaria as 34th Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court

The Ministry of Law and Justice on 16-02-2024 notified the appointment of Justice N.V. Anjaria as the next Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court. His name for the position of Chief Justice was recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium on 07-02-2024.
