India Very Young Arbitration Practitioners (IVYAP) and The Arbitration Event Tracker (TAET), in collaboration with SCC Times as Media Partner, are organizing a virtual panel discussion titled Building Careers at International Arbitral Institutions: Perspectives from India-Qualified Lawyers on 21 June 2026 at 4:30PM IST as part of TAET’s Early-Career in Arbitration Series.

The discussion will explore pathways to building careers at leading international arbitral institutions, with a particular focus on the experiences of India-qualified lawyers who successfully transitioned into institutional arbitration practice. The session is intended to provide practical insights into the educational, professional, and personal decisions that shape careers in international arbitration, particularly for students and young practitioners seeking to navigate increasingly competitive global opportunities.

The discussion will focus on a range of issues, including the value of pursuing an LL.M. abroad, transitions from Indian legal education and practice to international institutions, the day-to-day realities of institutional arbitration work, and the skills and experiences that distinguish successful applicants in the recruitment market worldwide. The panel will also examine longer-term career trajectories within international arbitration and the opportunities available to lawyers seeking to build cross-border careers in the field.

About the Panel

The panel brings together practitioners from some of the world’s leading arbitral institutions, each of whom has followed a distinct path from Indian legal education into international arbitration practice. Drawing on their experiences across different jurisdictions, institutions, and academic backgrounds, the discussion aims to provide candid and practical guidance to aspiring arbitration practitioners.

The panel comprises Arpan Banerjee (Deputy Counsel, ICC International Court of Arbitration), Avni Sharma (Assistant Legal Counsel, Permanent Court of Arbitration), Shivam Patanjali (Counsel & Team Lead, Singapore International Arbitration Centre) and Vishnu Menon (Former Senior International Case Counsel, Asian International Arbitration Centre). The discussion will be moderated by Natasha Singh (Judicial Law Clerk, Supreme Court of India and Executive Committee, IVYAP).
