The Supreme Court Collegium headed by the Chief Justice of India has recommended the elevation of four Chief Justices of High Courts and one Senior Advocate as Judges of the Supreme Court of India. The recommendations, made during the Collegium meetings held on 22 and 27 May 2026, were officially declared on 27 May 2026. The recommendations will now be considered by the Union Government in accordance with the constitutional appointment process.
The following names have been recommended for elevation to the Supreme Court:
-
Justice Sheel Nagu, Chief Justice, Punjab and Haryana High Court (Parent High Court: Madhya Pradesh High Court)
-
Justice Shree Chandrashekhar, Chief Justice, Bombay High Court (Parent High Court: Jharkhand High Court)
-
Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, Chief Justice, Madhya Pradesh High Court (Parent High Court: Delhi High Court)
-
Justice Arun Palli, Chief Justice, High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh (Parent High Court: Punjab and Haryana High Court)
-
Senior Advocate V. Mohana, Supreme Court of India
The recommendation of Mrs V. Mohana assumes particular significance as, at present, the Supreme Court of India has only one sitting woman judge, namely Justice B. V. Nagarathna. If Mrs V. Mohana is appointed pursuant to the Collegium recommendation, the number of women judges in the Supreme Court would increase to two.
