The Law Ministry notified appointment of Judges for 4 High Courts. Furthermore, 5 out of 7 Permanent Judges appointed on 30-01-2024 are women.
Justice B. V Nagarathna is currently serving as a Judge of Supreme Court of India. She formerly served as a Judge of Karnataka High Court until her elevation to the Supreme Court. Justice Nagarathna is also the potential contender for the first ever woman Chief Justice of India.
Collegium of Kerala High Court unanimously recommended Justice Sudha’s name which was duly approved by the Supreme Court Collegium.
Becoming only the second woman to hold the post of Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court, Justice Sunita Agarwal is currently the only woman Chief Justice of a High Court, as presently there is no woman among the Chief Justices of the High Courts of India.
Collegium in its Resolution dated 12-07-2023 recommended names of 15 Judges who are to appointed Permanent Judges in their respective High Courts. 3 out of the 15 recommended names are women Judges.
