KUALA LUMPUR, 8th October 2026 — As Malaysia continues to strengthen its position as a leading global hub for alternative dispute resolution (ADR), the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC) is preparing to host the eighth edition of its flagship Asia ADR Week from 12th to 16th October 2026 in Kuala Lumpur.

Hosted under the theme “Kainos: Where Vision Transforms Future”, the Asia ADR Week 2026 promises to bring together practitioners, arbitrators, mediators, academics, businesses and stakeholders from Malaysia, Asia and beyond to exchange perspectives on the developments shaping the future of dispute resolution.

The week of ADR celebration comes in conjunction with the worldwide ADR festival and coincides with an important development of Malaysia’s ADR ecosystem. The Arbitration (Amendment) Act 2024 and the Construction Industry Payment and Adjudication (Amendment) Act 2024 came into force on 1st January 2026, alongside the enforcement of the AIAC Suite of Rules 2026.

The reforms have put in place key developments to Malaysia’s arbitration framework, featuring the establishment of the AIAC Court of Arbitration and contemporary legislative enhancements, including the legalisation of third-party funding in arbitration. Alongside that, the AIAC Arbitration Rules 2026 encompassed the enhanced fast-track procedures, transparency in third-party funding, streamlined technical review of draft arbitral awards and encouraging procedures for amicable settlement within the arbitral proceedings.

The AIAC Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Danesh Chandran remarked that these legislative and institutional developments altogether reflect a strategic shift that cater to the way businesses approach dispute resolution.

“Dispute resolution is no longer about resolving a dispute after it has arisen. The focus now is on strengthening trust and confidence in commercial relationships, anticipating and managing risk and providing businesses with an ease of doing business through dispute resolution.”

In a move to broaden accessibility to the justice system, the AIAC introduced its Pro Bono Commercial Mediation Initiative earlier this May that aimed at providing qualifying businesses and SMEs with access to mediation on a fully subsidised basis.

Through this initiative, individuals and businesses are afforded with free mediation services administered by the AIAC in resolving commercial disputes capped at the threshold of RM250,000. In one way or the other, this Initiative alleviates barriers to justice that arose from financial and resources constraint in managing such disputes.

The AIAC Asia ADR Week 2026 will build on these developments through five days of curated discussions, professional exchanges and networking opportunities. The program will examine emerging developments in arbitration, construction adjudication, mediation and other forms of ADR, while bringing together perspectives from different jurisdictions, disciplines and areas of practice.

Alongside that, the AIAC has propelled the Asia ADR Week beyond the city of Kuala Lumpur through its “Road to Kainos” series, with engagements and AIAC on Campus initiatives in various regions across Malaysia, effectively bringing ADR closer to the local practitioner, business and professional communities.

For AIAC, positioning Malaysia as a global home for ADR transcend institutional readiness and legislative developments. Ultimately, it is about building an ecosystem in which professionals can develop the subject matter expertise, young ADR practitioners are empowered to take lead and businesses can access to and have confidence in effective dispute resolutions.

The Asia ADR Week 2026, taking place from 12th to 16th October 2026 at the Asian International Arbitration Centre, Bangunan Sulaiman, Kuala Lumpur, will offer a timely platform for key policy, legal and industry-driven conversations that promised to shape Malaysia’s next chapter of ADR.
