SC Collegium recommends appointment of 2 Permanent HC Judges and Term Extension for 6 Additional Judges

In a meeting held on 18 August 2026, the Supreme Court Collegium headed by CJI Surya Kant, recommended the appointments of Permanent Judges for Punjab and Haryana High Court and Calcutta High Court. Furthermore, the Collegium also recommended the term extension of six Additional Judges of Calcutta High Court.

The recommended names are as follows:

Appointment of Permanent Judges

1. Justice Rohit Kapoor, Additional Judge, was recommended for appointment as Permanent Judge of Punjab & Haryana High Court

2. Justice Biswaroop Chowdhury, Additional Judge, was recommended for appointment as Permanent Judge of Calcutta High Court.

Term Extension of Additional Judges

The following Calcutta High Court Additional Judges’ terms were extended for a fresh term of six months:

1. Justice Prasenjit Biswas,

2. Justice Uday Kumar

3. Justice Ajay Kumar Gupta

4. Justice Supratim Bhattacharya

5. Justice Partha Sarathi Chatterjee

6. Justice Md. Shabbar Rashidi.
