On 20 May 2026, the Labour Department of Haryana issued an advisory on Heatwave and Preparatory action for Heat-Wave season 2026. It has been directed to conduct awareness campaigns, display posters, and banners to educate workers about the heat wave and prevention measures and provide emergency contact numbers.
Applicable on: Employers, Occupiers, Industrial, Construction Associations, Workers Union, Workers.
The department has directed all employers, industries and construction companies to:

Allow re-scheduling of working hours for employees/ workers in different sectors.

Ensure adequate drinking water facilities and make provision for rest areas and cooling of workplaces.

Make provision for emergency ice packs and heat illness prevention material for working conditions requiring such facilities, for construction work.

Coordinate with the Health Department to ensure regular health check-ups for the workers.
Special instructions for Factories and Mines management to allow flexibility to workers in terms of following

Slow down the pace of work in, particularly if the worker feels slight heat strain.

Negotiate different schedules to let workers do the hardest work during the coolest parts of the day.

Re-schedule rest timings to avoid working during high/ extreme hot temperatures.
In case it is not possible then a 2-person crew should be assigned to perform work during the extreme hot temperatures.

Provide rest areas near to the workplace.

Make workers aware of the dangerous excessive heat and humidity and remedial measures.
It has been directed that special attention must be paid to the construction workers, brick kiln workers, daily wagers, and casual workers to make them aware of the ways to deal with the heatwaves.
