Gauhati High Court: The Division Bench of Vijay Bishnoi, CJ., and Suman Shyam, J., directed counsel for respondents to furnish the details regarding the interim measures to be taken by respondents to deal with the pollution of Bharalu River till the completion of the project, which is scheduled to be completed in the year 2030.

Counsel for respondents submitted that the proposed measures for dealing with the problem of pollution in the Bharalu River at Bharalumukh, Guwahati had been detailed out in the affidavit filed on behalf of the Additional Secretary, Department of Urban Affairs, Dispur, Guwahati.

As per the said measures, three Sewage Treatment Plants are proposed to be constructed at different locations and Phase-I and Phase-II of the project are scheduled to be completed in the year 2030.

H.K. Das, Standing Counsel of the High Court submitted that the action plan for Bharalu River had already been prepared in the year 2019 and the State Government had now come with a project to deal with the problem of pollution of Bharalu River in the year 2024. It was also submitted that though in the action plan, certain interim measures were suggested till the whole project was completed, but those interim measures had not been taken by respondent.

The Court thus directed counsel for respondents to furnish the details regarding the interim measures to be taken by respondents to deal with the pollution of Bharalu River till the completion of the project which is scheduled to be completed in the year 2030.

The matter would next be listed after three weeks.
