UP Court convicts former MLA Mukhtar Ansari in 32-year-old Awadhesh Rai murder case

MP/MLA Court, Varanasi: Avanish Gautam, Special Judge, MP-MLA Court convicted and sentenced former Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Mukhtar Ansari to life imprisonment for murder of Awadhesh Rai who was the brother of a Congress leader Ajay Rai.

Awadhesh Rai was shot dead outside Ajay Rai’s house in Varanasi on 03-08-1991. The two brothers were standing at the gate of their house around 1am when some assailants including Mukhtar Ansari, came in a car and shot Awadhesh. Thereafter, Ajay Rai filed an FIR in which he named Mukhtar Ansari, and MLAs Abdul Kalam, Bhim Singh, Kamlesh Singh, and Rakesh Srivastava, out of which Kalam and Singh died and others were in jail.
