e-KYC Mandatory for IP Attorneys

On 9 July 2026, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry issued a public notice making electronic Know Your Customer (e-KYC) compliance mandatory for all Intellectual Property (IP) Attorneys practising before the Intellectual Property Office and accessing the online portals of the IP India website.

Key Highlights:

  1. The notice requires all attorneys enrolled in the register maintained by the Office of the CGPDTM to complete the prescribed e-KYC verification.

  2. The requirement also applies to attorneys seeking access to the online portals of the IP India website.

  3. All attorneys enrolled in the register maintained by the Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs & Trade Marks are required to complete the e-KYC process within one month.

  4. The prescribed e-KYC form is available on the official IP India e-filing portal and can be accessed using the attorney’s existing login credentials.

  5. The Office of CGPDTM has advised stakeholders encountering technical issues during the e-KYC process to contact the IT Support Team through the following official email addresses:
