Supreme Court Postpones AOR Examination

On 30 April 2026, the Advocates-on-Record (AOR) Examination Cell of the Supreme Court of India announced that the AOR Examination will not be conducted in 2026.

According to the official notice, the competent authority took this decision after reviewing the overall strength of existing Advocates-on-Record. In view of the current adequacy in numbers, the Supreme Court found it appropriate to defer the examination for one year.

The notification further clarifies that the next AOR Examination is likely to be held in 2027, with the detailed schedule and examination dates to be announced later.

The AOR Examination serves as the mandatory gateway for advocates seeking the right to file cases and appear before the Supreme Court of India. While the postponement will temporarily delay the entry of new AORs, the decision reflects the Supreme Court’s emphasis on managing the overall strength of Advocates-on-Record and underscores its institutional approach to regulating access to practice before the apex court.
