Right to menstrual health under Article 21

The Supreme Court has recognised menstrual health as a fundamental right under Article 21 of the Constitution of India, linking it directly to dignity, equality, health, and access to education.

In this landmark judgment, the Court directed schools to ensure availability of sanitary pads, private functional toilets, safe menstrual waste disposal systems, and menstrual health education for students. The ruling marks a major step in strengthening gender justice and educational access across India.
