Intellectual Property Law today stands at the crossroads of innovation, commerce, technology, and human creativity. As new technologies redefine ownership, originality, and access, the role of legal professionals in navigating these complexities has never been more crucial. Recognising this evolving landscape, the Centre for Innovation and Intellectual Property Rights (CIIPR), Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Punjab, is set to organise the 2nd National IP Law Moot Court Competition, 2026, building upon the resounding success of its inaugural edition.
The competition aims to provide law students across the country with a rigorous and immersive platform to engage with contemporary intellectual property disputes, sharpen their advocacy skills, and experience the realities of IP litigation in a simulated courtroom environment.

About the Centre for Innovation and Intellectual Property Rights (CIIPR)
CIIPR functions as a dedicated hub for research, awareness, and capacity-building in the field of Intellectual Property Law. The Centre actively bridges the gap between academia and industry by organising conferences, workshops, seminars, and competitions focused on emerging IP challenges.
Through collaborations with legal professionals, academic institutions, and industry stakeholders, CIIPR seeks to cultivate analytical rigour and practical competence among students. The 2nd National IP Law Moot Court Competition is a flagship initiative in furtherance of this mission.
Why the 2nd National IP Law Moot Court Competition?
The competition has been meticulously designed with a dual objective:
-
To strengthen participants’ understanding of substantive IP law.
-
To develop procedural and strategic skills essential for courtroom practice.
Unlike conventional moots that focus primarily on doctrinal interpretation, this competition emphasises the practical dynamics of IP litigation, including pleadings, evidentiary considerations, procedural strategy, and judicial engagement. Participants are expected to demonstrate not only legal knowledge but also adaptability, clarity of reasoning, and persuasive advocacy.
By simulating real-world disputes, the moot aims to prepare students for the nuanced and fast-evolving nature of intellectual property practice.
