Shimla Law Review Volume VIII Call for Papers

Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla is launching the Eighth Volume of its annual publication, Shimla Law Review (SLR) (ISSN: 2582-1903). In this regard, submissions under different categories are invited from interested faculty members, research scholars, judges, professionals, and students. The volume is not restricted to any particular theme and submission of manuscripts with an inter- disciplinary perspective on contemporary socio-legal issues, theories, and developments, awaiting scholarly treatment are encouraged. The last date for submission of manuscripts is April 30, 2026. The Publication Policy, Submission Guidelines, and prescribed Citation Style of the Law Review may be accessed here.

About the Law Review

The Shimla Law Review is envisioned to be an annual publication, owned and published by the HPNLU, Shimla. The periodical is intended to provide a forum to the judges, professors, research scholars, and students for exposition on contemporary legal issues, apart from the traditional challenges that the legal paraphernalia comes across. SLR finds its genesis in the backdrop that the role of an institution is beyond the traditional classroom interaction. It includes deliberations that can affect the society in multifarious ways and support the progressive values that are imbibed in the Constitution. SLR is an all-encompassing journal and promotes contributions on multiple facets of the legal regime owing to its ever-evolving width. In essence, the work of scholarship involves criticizing, revising the existing quantum of information, concepts, values, methods, and throwing new light in the darkness of unknown. The topography where the University is located resembles the terrains of law and provides the most conducive opportunity for a publication such as SLR that dwells deeper into the realms and nuances of these terrains of the conception and practices of law and legal system.

The papers published in its previous volumes have received accolade from academicians at home and abroad, bar & bench alike. Papers published in Shimla Law Review has been chosen as one of the best fifty-one papers published in English, under peer

reviewed journals from across the world, in the decade, 2010-2020, by Cross Examination Debate Association, the United States. Some of the papers published in its previous Volumes have found place amongst the most downloaded papers in the category of ‘jurisprudence and theoretical inquiry’ from the SSRN database. SLR has also been cited by Prof. I. P. Massey in his book on Administrative Law.

Submission Guidelines

  1. Theme: There is no specific or particular theme(s) or topic(s) for the Volume. All submissions, whether relating to the legal developments directly or otherwise, are welcome.

  2. All submission in electronic form: All contributions have to be submitted in the electronic form. The manuscript should be typed in MS Office double spaced, with a left margin of one and half inches, and submitted here.

  3. Abstract: Abstract of the paper in 250-300 words should be sent along with the electronic submissions.

  4. Covering Letter: Author(s) must send a covering letter mentioning the title of the paper, name, designation, and details of the author(s) as well as institutional affiliation. The author(s) are compulsorily required to make a solemn declaration about the originality of the manuscript and that the same has not been published or submitted for publication elsewhere.

  5. Communication of Acceptance: The decision on the acceptance of the paper for publication will be that of the Editorial Board, which shall be final. The communication shall be made electronically. The Editorial Board reserves the right of publication and a manuscript may be rejected from publication in the final stage(s).

  6. Last Date of Submission: The last date of submission for the Eighth Volume of SLR is April 30, 2026.

Terms and Conditions

The authors and contributors should comply with the following terms and conditions:

  1. The submission should be well researched/documented following the uniform style-guide given above.

  2. The submission should be an original work of the contributor and not a compilation of pre-existing works on the subject and it should not amount to the violation of others’ copyright. The contributor has to give a declaration as to the originality of the work.

  3. The copyright in all articles published in the Volume shall vest in the owner of the Law Review, i.e., HPNLU, Shimla.

  4. The views adopted from other sources and others’ work must be quoted and sufficiently acknowledged.

  5. Paraphrasing another author’s work shall not be considered as original work. If, however, such paraphrasing is inevitable as also necessary, the same shall be acknowledged.

  6. The Contributor has to cover the risk of being sued for copyright, defamation, or contempt, and he/she may be liable for copyright violation.

  7. Any manuscript containing the contents generated by artificial intelligence (AI) or machine learning (ML) shall be rejected outrightly.
