Paid Menstrual Leave

On 9-10-2025, the Karnataka Government approved a groundbreaking policy granting one-day paid menstrual leave each month to women employees across both government and private sectors.

Under the Menstrual Leave Policy-2025, Karnataka has introduced paid menstrual leave aimed at fostering workplace inclusivity and supporting women’s health needs.

The policy was ratified during a cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who announced:

Our Government stands committed to dignity and well-being at work. Through the Menstrual Leave Policy 2025, women employees across Karnataka will now receive one paid leave day every month — a step towards a more humane, understanding, and inclusive workplace.

The policy grants one paid leave day per month for menstruation, amounting to a total of 12 days annually.

The policy is expected to benefit women employed across a broad spectrum of workplaces, such as:

  • Public sector institutions and administrative offices

  • Technology and business services firms

  • Manufacturing units, including garment and textile industries

  • Large-scale corporate entities and multinational organizations

  • Small and medium-sized private enterprises
