The Ministry of Law and Justice on 14-8-2024, notified the appointment of Justice Hamarsan Singh Thangkhiew, as the Acting Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court. The President of India in exercise of the power conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution, made the appointment.
Justice Thangkhiew, will perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice with effect from 17-08-2024 consequent upon retirement of Justice S. Vaidyanathan, Chief Justice, Meghalaya High Court on 16-08-2024.
Justice Thangkhiew was previously appointed as Acting Chief Justice on with effect from 02-11-2023, after the retirement of then Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court, Justice Sanjib Banerjee.
