Menstrual Leave Policy

Maharashtra National Law University (MNLU), Mumbai has approved the Menstrual Leave Policy for its female students in UG and PG academic programs on campus. This initiative was spearheaded by the Student Bar Council (SBC) of the university, to ensure access to education while taking care of one’s menstrual health. This was aimed at achieving the objective of gender justice in the University.

On 22.03.2024, the Hon’ble Vice-chancellor of MNLU Mumbai approved the Menstrual Leave Policy proposal submitted by the SBC. The same was notified to all students by the Registrar through the Office Order dt. 03.04.2024. As per this Policy, students undergoing menstruation shall be eligible to take one day leave per month, with a cap of five days per semester. Further, the beneficiaries can avail this leave on a self-certification basis, by applying to the Students Affairs department within seven working days of claiming such leave. This policy is applicable with effect from 04.04.2024 and thus can be availed from the ongoing academic semester itself.

MNLU Mumbai and its SBC remains committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive academic environment. This initiative would support the health and well-being of the students and provide some relief to them, while acknowledging the unique needs and challenges they might face during menstruation. With this, MNLU Mumbai becomes one of the pioneering educational institutions in Mumbai to grant menstrual leaves.
