About Maharashtra National Law University, Nagpur and the Centre for Environmental Law

The University started its journey in the year 2016 with 60 students in the B.A.LL.B. (Hons) and 10 students in the LL.M. The university currently offers B.A.LL.B (Hons), B.A.LL.B (Hons in Adjudication and Justicing), B.B.A.LL.B (Hons), LL.M and PhD. In 2020, the first batch of B.A.LL.B (Hons in Adjudication and Justicing) was inducted with the vision to train students for the entry-level of Judicial Services. To promote quality research in law and its allied subjects, the University has established various research centres.

About the Workshop

The Centre for Environmental Law & Pro Bono Club and Legal Aid Centre, Maharashtra National Law University (MNLU), Nagpur organised One Day Master Trainer Workshop on Legal Literacy and Legal Awareness in association with the Department of Justice, Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India, and the Centre for Environmental Law, Education, Research and Advocacy (CEERA), NLSIU, Bengaluru, on 24th March 2023 at MNLU, Nagpur campus. The Inaugural Ceremony was graced by Shri Jaydip Govardhan Pande, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Nagpur, Prof. (Dr.) Sairam Bhat, Professor of Law, NLSIU, Bangalore, Dr. Ashish J Dixit, Registrar, MNLU Nagpur, Prof. (Dr.) Himanshu Pandey, Professor of Law, MNLU Nagpur and Dr. Veena Roshan Jose, Convenor and Centre-in-Charge, Centre for Environmental Law.

Prof. (Dr.) Himanshu Pandey welcomed all the distinguished guests and attendees and highlighted the significance of Legal Literacy and Legal Awareness in the paradigm of social justice. Further, Prof. (Dr.) Sairam Bhat delved deep into the need behind understanding the nuances of legal aid and the gaping lack of awareness among the masses with respect to the fundamental right to free legal aid. Shri Jaydip Govardhan Pande addressed the gathering and shared the harsh ground realities and lacunae in the system of social justice due to a lack of awareness and misconceptions about legal aid. The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Veena Roshan Jose, Centre in Charge, Centre for Environmental Law, and the Convenor of the Workshop.

The inaugural session was followed by three technical sessions led by Prof. (Dr.) Sairam Bhat, Shri Jaydip Govardhan Pande and Mr. Vikas Gahlot, Teaching Associate, NLSIU, Bangalore respectively.
