KIIT School of Law, KIIT (Deemed-to-be-University), Bhubaneswar, has set out a proposed framework for menstrual leave for undergraduate and postgraduate students through the KIIT School of Law Menstrual Leave Policy, 2026. The policy seeks to recognise menstrual health as an important aspect of student welfare, dignity, equality and access to education, while ensuring that students are not academically disadvantaged because of menstruation-related pain or discomfort.
The policy proposes two days of menstrual leave per calendar month, with deemed attendance for all scheduled classes on approved leave days. It also provides for enhanced accommodation for students experiencing medically certified menstrual disorders or related conditions, alongside confidentiality safeguards, campus health support and a dedicated grievance-redressal mechanism.
The document draws upon the White Paper on Menstrual Leave published by the Centre for Research and Planning of the Supreme Court of India in November 2025, as well as menstrual leave frameworks considered at various National Law Universities across India.
Ordinary menstrual leave may be availed through self-declaration and does not require a medical certificate, diagnosis, medical history or proof of the severity of symptoms. Students with medically certified menstrual disorders or related conditions may receive an enhanced accommodation of up to five days per calendar month, inclusive of the ordinary two-day entitlement.
The Policy further provides for confidentiality, non-discrimination and appropriate menstrual health support on campus. It adopts an inclusive approach covering students who menstruate, irrespective of gender identity, while ensuring that medical information is sought only where necessary for enhanced accommodation.
