The Bar Council of Delhi has declared the results of the Bar Council of Delhi Elections 2026, pursuant to the directions issued by the Supreme Court in Rudra Vikram Singh v. Bar Council of Delhi & Anr.1, and connected matters. The declaration dated 19 August 2026, issued by the Returning Officer, Rakesh Munjal, Senior Advocate, expressly stated that the results shall remain subject to the outcome of the petitions pending before the Tribunal(s) constituted to adjudicate election disputes.
Earlier this week, the Supreme Court, by order dated 14 August 2026, had disposed of the petitions concerning the Delhi State Bar Council elections and granted liberty to the aggrieved persons to approach the Election Tribunal(s), including those constituted by the Court. The Court noted that the election process had concluded and that counting had been permitted earlier on the condition that the results would not be declared.
The Court directed the Bar Council of Delhi to preserve the entire election record, including the original CCTV footage and videography recordings, and produce the same before the Tribunal(s). The Court further directed the Delhi Police to preserve the original CCTV footage and provide a copy to the Delhi State Bar Council.
The Supreme Court further directed that the results could meanwhile be declared but made clear that they would be subject to the outcome of the petitions before the Tribunal(s). The Court also requested the Tribunal(s) to provide an expeditious hearing and observed that it would be appreciated if the pending petitions were decided within three months, subject to cooperation by all concerned. The Court expressly clarified that it had not expressed any opinion on the merits of the case.
