The BCD has declared the 2026 election results pursuant to the Supreme Court’s directions dated 14 August 2026, with the results expressly made subject to the outcome of petitions pending before the Election Tribunal(s).
Following directions from the Supreme Court in Savita Devi v. Union of India finding the existing dispute resolution mechanism for State Bar Council elections inadequate, the Bar Council of India has notified two new Election Tribunals, headed by Justice Deepak Gupta and Justice Hima Kohli respectively.
Supreme Court directed that the entire process of recounting of votes should be video-graphed, and the result of re-count to be signed by the parties, their counsel as well as the Court Commissioner, besides the Presiding Officer of the Election Tribunal.
