Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla, and Maharashtra National Law University (MNLU), Mumbai, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 01 August 2026 to strengthen academic cooperation, research collaboration, faculty engagement, and student development initiatives between the two premier institutions of legal education.
The MoU has been executed between Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, HPNLU, Shimla, and Prof (Dr.) Dilip Ukey Vice Chancellor, MNLU, Mumbai with the objective of fostering excellence in legal education, research, and capacity building through institutional collaboration.
HPNLU, Shimla, established by the Himachal Pradesh National Law University Act, 2016, has emerged as a centre of excellence in legal education, combining academic rigor with interdisciplinary and practice-oriented learning in the unique setting of the Himalayas. Maharashtra National Law University, Mumbai, established under the Maharashtra National Law University Act, 2014, is one of India’s leading National Law Universities.
The MoU envisages a broad framework of cooperation aimed at promoting academic and institutional collaboration between the two universities. The partnership will facilitate the exchange of students, researchers, and faculty members, thereby providing opportunities for enhanced academic interaction and exposure. Both institutions shall collaborate in organizing seminars, conferences, workshops, training programmes, and other academic activities on mutually agreed terms.
The MoU also provides for collaborative teaching, joint research projects, scholarly publications, faculty and researcher exchanges, and academic engagement at the doctoral level. It facilitates access to academic and library resources for Ph.D. scholars of both institutions and encourages the development of interdisciplinary research initiatives, capacity-building programmes, and collaborative projects supported by national and international funding agencies, thereby strengthening academic excellence and intellectual exchange between the two universities.
The MoU marks another significant milestone in HPNLU’s continued efforts to expand its national academic network and provide wider opportunities for its students and faculty through strategic institutional partnerships.
