Call for Participation | Centre for Intellectual Property Rights, NUALS Announces National Seminar on “Music, Mental Health and Law”

NUALS music mental health law seminar 2026

The Centre for Intellectual Property Rights (CIPR) at National University of Advanced Legal Studies has announced a Call for Papers for its upcoming National Seminar titled “Music, Mental Health and Law: Chartering the Triad of Sound, State of Mind, and Statutes”, tentatively scheduled to be held in mid-August 2026 at the NUALS campus, Kochi.

The seminar seeks to explore the evolving interdisciplinary relationship between music, neuroscience, mental health, intellectual property, healthcare regulation, and digital governance. Bringing together scholars, practitioners, researchers, policymakers, musicians, and students from across disciplines, the event aims to foster meaningful dialogue on the legal and socio-cultural dimensions of music and mental well-being.

The seminar is being organised under the aegis of the Centre for Intellectual Property Rights, NUALS, with Prof. (Dr.) Athira P.S. serving as the Organiser. The University functions under the patronage of Hon’ble Justice Soumen Sen, Chief Justice of the High Court of Kerala and Chancellor of NUALS, and the leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) G. B. Reddy.

The seminar brochure highlights several contemporary and emerging themes, including:

  • Legal histories and ownership structures of Indian musical traditions

  • Neuroscientific and therapeutic dimensions of music

  • Copyright, performers’ rights, and traditional cultural expressions

  • Digital access, fair use, and therapeutic justice

  • Regulation and ethical governance of music therapy practices

The organisers have invited abstracts from academicians, research scholars, students, practitioners, and contributors from non-legal disciplines as well. Abstracts of 300—500 words may be submitted on or before 10 June 2026, while full papers are due by 12 July 2026.

Selected papers meeting publication standards will be considered for inclusion in an edited volume titled “Music, Mental Health and Law: Chartering the Triad of Sound, State of Mind, and Statutes”, to be published under the aegis of a reputed publisher following a blind peer-review process.
