THE PANEL DISCUSSION:
The Wildlife Protection Government Law College National Moot Court Competition is accompanied by a Panel Discussion which delves into current socio-legal questions that often relate closely to the Moot Proposition. The Panel Discussion features eminent personalities from the fields of environmental law, wildlife conservation and media among others. This discussion offers unique insights into contemporary legal and societal issues.
Last year, an insightful discussion was held on “Importance of Healthy Coastal Wetlands in the Face of Climate Breakdown,” featuring Prof. Kishu Daswani, Mr. Stalin Dayanand and Mr. Shaunak Modi as panellists, with Ms. Meenaz Kakalia as the moderator. We are pleased to announce that the Panel Discussion for this edition will take place offline on 8th January, 2026 at Government Law College, Mumbai. We extend a warm invitation to all those interested in attending the Panel Discussion.
THE MOOT PROPOSITION:
The Moot Proposition revolves around allegations of illegal wildlife trade at a heritage market and examines the failure of law enforcement authorities to act on evidence of offences under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. It investigates the maintainability of a criminal writ petition seeking the registration of an FIR, the applicability of statutory complaint procedures, and the rights of proposed accused persons to be heard at the pre-investigation stage. It also explores the admissibility of sting recordings, the legal implications of unregistered wildlife trade, and the High Court’s power to ensure effective enforcement of wildlife protection laws.
