On 25 August 2026, the Ministry of Law and Justice notified the commencement of the Tribunals Reforms Act, 2026, bringing all provisions of the legislation into force with effect from the same date.
Introduced during the Monsoon Session of Parliament 2026, the Tribunals Reforms Act, 2026 received the President’s assent on 13 August 2026, paving the way for a new framework aimed at improving the efficiency, independence, transparency and uniformity of tribunals in India.

The Act seeks to strengthen the functioning of tribunals through a comprehensive framework governing tribunal administration, appointments, service conditions, performance evaluation and institutional oversight. It is designed to bring greater consistency and accountability across the tribunal system while enhancing access to justice and administrative efficiency.
With effect from 25 August 2026, the Tribunals Reforms Act, 2026 has replaced the Tribunals Reforms Act, 2021.
