RBI Repeals 628 Supervisory Circulars

On 31 July 2026, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) issued a circular repealing 628 supervisory circulars following the release of 64 Consolidated Directions administered by the Department of Supervision (DoS).

The repeal came into effect from 31 July 2026.

Key Highlights:

  1. The RBI has repealed 628 supervisory circulars1 following the issuance of 64 Consolidated Directions administered by the Department of Supervision (DoS).

  2. The Consolidated Directions bring together supervisory instructions issued by the DoS and erstwhile departments whose supervisory functions have been merged with the DoS.

  3. The repealed circulars include instructions that have either been consolidated into the new Directions or have become obsolete, redundant or no longer relevant.

  4. The consolidation exercise aims to streamline the supervisory framework and reduce fragmentation across multiple circulars and instructions.

  5. The RBI has clarified that actions already taken or initiated under the repealed directions will continue to be governed by those provisions.
