In a dialogue on the evolving intersection of law and technology, Justice B.R. Gavai, Chief Justice of India, Justice Vikram Nath, Judge, Supreme Court of India, and Tushar Mehta, Solicitor General of India, addressed a distinguished gathering at the SOAS University of London. The panel discussion was held under the theme “The Role of Technology in the Indian Legal System”.

Delivering the keynote, Justice Gavai reflected on the transformative journey of the Indian judiciary, tracing how courts have progressively embraced technological advancements—from digitisation of records to virtual courtrooms—reshaping access to justice in modern India.

The session was moderated by Dr. Subir Sinha, Director, SOAS South Asia Institute, and saw thought-provoking questions from attendees. Discussions ranged from the regulation of live streaming of court proceedings to the ethical integration of AI in judicial processes, with a central focus on how to enhance accessibility without eroding the principles of empathy, fairness, and transparency.
