On 17-05-2024, the Supreme Court Collegium comprising of Dr Justice DY Chandrachud, the Chief Justice of India, Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice BR Gavai resolved to recommend the appointment of 2 Additional Judges of Gauhati High Court as Permanent Judges and extension of term of Additional Judge of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court.
Gauhati High Court
Names of Justice Susmita Phukan Khaund, and Justice Mitali Thakuria were recommended to be elevated as Permanent Judges of the Gauhati High Court against the existing vacancies.
The decision was taken by the Collegium after scrutinizing the material placed on record including the opinion of the consultee judges and report of the Judgment Evaluation Committee.
Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court
The Collegium recommended the appointment of Justice Rajesh Sekhri as an Additional Judge of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh for a fresh term of one year with effect from 29-07-2024.
The recommendation for extension of term was made on the account of there being no vacancy of Permanent Judge against which Justice Sekhri could be considered.
