About CHRIST (Deemed to be University)

School of Law, CHRIST (Deemed to be University) (SLCU), Bangalore, is a part of CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Bangalore, which was founded and is administered by Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI). CMI, the first indigenous Catholic religious congregation of India with a membership of 2000, renders its service to humanity in educational, social, healthcare and other activities. The parent university, a premier educational institution, is an academic fraternity of individuals dedicated to the motto of excellence and service and already has a proven history of success in the field of education. Though it is a minority institution, CHRIST (Deemed to be University) maintains a secular outlook towards education. Students of all castes, religions, creeds and languages are encouraged to be a part of this temple of learning. CHRIST (Deemed to be University), having celebrated its Golden Jubilee, is a premier education institution with the motto of Excellence and Service. The University has been accredited with Grade ‘A+’ by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council

About Legal Aid and Awareness Committee

The Legal Awareness and Aid Committee (hereinafter referred to as the “Committee”), School of Law, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), is among the 28 committees in the School of Law, which caters to the all- round development of its students and is fundamentally involved in imparting legal knowledge and providing legal aid to the needy. The Committee on behalf of CHRIST (Deemed to be University) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 25th July 2015 for a period of 10 years, with the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority (KSLSA) to act in furtherance of the University’s social objectives. The Committee conducts Legal aid camps, Village Adalat, Teaching Programs at Government schools and other outreach programs in furtherance of its socio-legal objectives.

About the Competition

The 1st School of Law, CHRIST, National Legal Services Conclave, (hereinafter referred to “Conclave”) is scheduled to take place on the 4th and 5th of April 2024. The Conclave will be conducted in an offline at the School of Law, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Bangalore Central Campus. The Committee is proud to host this Conclave in collaboration with the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority (KSLSA) and Nyaaya, a pioneering initiative incubated at the Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy.

The Conclave brings together four components for developing legal proficiency in practical application by testing the functioning of legal services clinics in law colleges/institutions/universities across the country. The four components are:

  • RTI Report

  • Writ Drafting,

  • Annual Report

  • Presentation

The Conclave in collaboration with Nyaaya, shall also be hosting a workshop for all its participants on the topic “Creating Legal Awareness Among the Underserved”. This engaging workshop will include discussions on existing practices of legal awareness praxes across different participating institutions, culling out best practices, sharing anecdotal as well as strategic inputs from Nyaaya’s experience and cumulatively designing processes for more impactful legal awareness activities with a pledge to commit to help those in need in whenever opportunities arise.

Competition Details

Eligibility :

Participants must be Members of the Legal Aid and Awareness Committee (hereinafter referred to as the ‘LAC’) or Legal Services Committee (hereinafter referred to as the ‘LSC’) of any law college/ institution/ university recognised by the Bar Council of India. Such Members must be students of LL.B. / B.L., from the three-year or five-year course. Each participating LSC/LAC is allowed to be represented by two of its members along with the Faculty Convenor.

Note: By registering for the Conclave, the participating LAC/ LSC will be consenting to take part in all four components of the conclave.
