Supreme Court: In an appeal against Election Commission of India’s (ECI) judgment and order dated 6-02-2024 which recognized Ajit Pawar’s faction for using Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) symbol, the Division Bench of Surya Kant and K.V. Viswanathan, JJ. issued notice to Ajit Pawar faction and directed continuation of operation of ECI order dated 7-02-2024 for using name “Nationalist Congress Party — Sharadchandra Pawar”.
The Court directed continuation of operation of the order passed by the ECI on 7-02-2024 granting Sharad Pawar the right to use name “Nationalist Congress Party — Sharadchandra Pawar” for the purposes of the Symbols Order.
It kept the option open for Sharad Pawar to approach the Election Commission regarding allocation of symbol, and further added that the symbol shall be allotted within a week of moving such an application.

The Court will be hearing the matter again on 22-03-2024.
