About Corporate Law Society (CLS)
CLS was founded in 2014 with the primary objective of providing a platform to foster discussions and debate on issues of corporate law and related topics, inculcate an interest in the subject and allow students to gain a practitioner’s perspective. This is facilitated by inviting eminent alumni to deliver lectures on developments and emerging trends in the realm of corporate law and related areas.
Additionally, CLS organises its flagship event, the Essay Competition, which serves as a platform for students from Law Universities all across the country to contribute to the corporate law academia and to forward the discourse on the subject-matter.
About the Competition
An epitome of excellence and diligence, Ms. Pranita Mehta was an outstanding student of NLUJ (Batch of 2017). She had been a part of the CLS since its inception and was associated with the Society as an Advisor in 2016. Throughout her time in NLUJ, Pranita performed exceptionally well in her academic endeavours as well as at various international moot court competitions. Pranita, a corporate law enthusiast, was also amongst the first ones in her batch to get recruited by one of India’s Tier-1 law firms. She personified not just the ideal student but also embodied the right mix of charm and cheerfulness.
The Pranita Mehta Memorial Essay Writing Competition is conducted annually in memory of the Late Ms. Pranita Mehta. By now, we have successfully organized seven editions of the Essay Competition in collaboration with premier law firms from the country.

Eligibility Criteria
All students pursuing bachelor’s degree in law i.e. three year LL.B./five year LL.B. or a post graduate course from any law school/university/college recognized by the Bar Council of India are eligible to participate in the Competition.
Submission Guidelines

Plagiarism: Any submission that is found to be plagiarized beyond 25% shall be disqualified from the competition.

Anonymity: Participant shall not include his/her name in the submission’s text in any form.

Co-Authorship: Co-authorship, up to two authors, is allowed.

Format: Submissions shall be made in MS-Word format (.doc/.docx) only. Submissions made in PDF format shall not be accepted.

In case a participant is submitting an assignment/project, which has been submitted to their university’s Turnitin repository, CLS requires the participants to submit the associated Turnitin report via email indicating that the plagiarism percentage is less than 25%.
Formatting Guidelines

Font and size of main text and footnote: Times New Roman, 12 point for main text, and Times New Roman, 10 point for footnotes.

Size and alignment: A4 Size with 1 Inch Margin; all text except headings should be justified.

Footnoting: The participant has to adopt a uniform style of citation throughout the document.

Spacing: Submission should be 1.5 spaced (except footnotes which may be single-spaced).
-
Word limit: The word limit for the submission is 2500 — 3500 words (excluding abstract and footnotes). Abstract should not exceed 300 words.
