ABOUT MAHARASHTRA NATIONAL LAW UNIVERSITY MUMBAI

Maharashtra National Law University Mumbai has been established under the Maharashtra Act No. VI of 2014 on 20th March 2014. The Act envisages to establish and incorporate National Law Universities in the State for the development and advancement of legal education and for the purposes of imparting specialized and systematic instruction, training and research in systems of law and for the matters connected therewith or incidental thereto. The object of the university is to advance and disseminate learning and knowledge of law and legal processes. As its role in national development MNLU Mumbai strives to develop in the students and research scholars a sense of responsibility and zeal to serve the society in the field of law. Emphasis is laid on developing skills with regard to advocacy, training in legal services, exercises in legislation- drafting, research in law reforms and the like. This is meted out by regularly organizing lectures, seminars, symposia, workshops, competitions and conferences regularly. University also provides conducive environment for participating in Inter-University Competitions.

ABOUT CENTRE FOR ARBITRATION AND RESEARCH [CAR]

MNLU Mumbai’s Centre for Arbitration and Research seeks to serve as a think-tank to generate awareness about arbitration law in theory and in practice and also carry out high quality research in the field to assist policy-formulation by the Government. The Centre also intends to serve as a platform for imparting professional training to the stakeholders in the field of arbitration and cater to all areas of arbitration especially the niche areas. The Centre’s objective is to create a culture of arbitration by training the young-breed of lawyers and law students through workshops, conferences, symposiums, etc and to carry out extensive research in arbitration law inter alia in specialized fields of Sports Arbitration, Construction Arbitration, Maritime Arbitration, and IP Arbitration by imparting quality training to industry professionals with the help of renowned experts to help improve the level and quality of arbitration services at every step.

ABOUT INDIAN REVIEW OF INTERNATIONAL ARBITRATION-

Indian Review of International Arbitration (IRIArb) is an international journal which follows a blind peer review format and is edited by the professors, practitioners and research scholars from around the globe. The Advisory Board and Editorial Board of the journal manifest the international outlook of the journal. Prof. Chirag Balyan is the editor in chief of the journal. The journal is currently published in an online mode by the Centre for Arbitration and Research, Maharashtra National Law University Mumbai. IRIArb publishes twice each year. The Journal accepts high quality, analytical, rigorous papers from professors, practitioners, research scholars and students in the field of international arbitration and the allied areas. The journal promotes original, unpublished and high-quality research work in the field of international arbitration. The journal encourages empirical work, however, doctrinal papers are also accepted. It is an open-access journal whose aim is to make the knowledge of international arbitration more democratic and accessible. The journal does not accept any payment for the publication.(www.iriarb.com). IRIArb is also indexed with EBC, SCC Online, J Gate and HeinOnline.

ABOUT DISTINGUISHED LECTURE ON INTERNATIONAL ARBITRATION

The distinguished lecture series on International Arbitration was started by Prof. Chirag Balyan as an initiate of Indian Review of International Arbitration. Two lectures are scheduled every year. The aim is to invite distinguished arbitration practitioners to speak on contemporary issues in arbitration. The first five lectures were delivered by Prof. Julien Chaisse (Professor at the City University of Hong Kong), Mr. Kevin Kim (Senior Partner, Peter & Kim, Korea), and Ms. Chiann Bao (Independent Arbitrator, Singapore), Prof. Jeffrey Waincymer (Australia), Prof. Stefan Kroll (Germany).
