RMLNLU Debating Achievements 2021-22

Reported by Vanaj Vidyan

Between September 2021 and May 2022, RML students and debate teams and adjudicators excelled at more than 40 international and national tournaments. Through their performances this session, the students set a pioneering mark in the institution’s debating history in many ways: particularly, the incredible feat with speaker ranks at the World Universities Debating Champion, 2021. Other notable performances at international forums include team breaks in United Asia Debating Championship, 2021, where the RML team was among the top 24 teams in Asia; Asian British Parliamentary Debate, 2021 and adjudicator breaks at the World School Debating Championship, 2021. Furthermore, RML has become the only team this year to break at all three regional majors by breaking 2nd in the English Secondary Language category at Nepal Australasian Championships.

Exhibiting wonderful performances within the national tournaments, the RML debating team were finalists in the Hansraj Parliamentary Debate (“PD”) and Vitark DDUC PD. While the adjudicator tabs were topped by RML in Hansraj, the adjudicator performances overall have been splendid with breaks in IIT Bombay PD, FTD Kirori Mal College and NUJS Debate 2022 among others. RML also bagged multiple accolades at the SBS PD.
