The Corporate Law Society [“CLS”] of National Law University, Jodhpur [“NLUJ”] is delighted to announce the details of the 6th Pranita Mehta Memorial Essay Writing Competition.

About NLUJ and CLS: NLUJ is one of India’s leading law schools situated at the vibrant and colourful city of Jodhpur, Rajasthan. NLUJ has constantly been ranked as one of the top law schools in India. NLUJ’s CLS was established in 2014, with the primary objective of fostering discussions related to corporate law. Amongst other activities, CLS conducts the Pranita Mehta Memorial Essay Writing Competition [“Essay Competition”] annually in memory of Late Ms. Pranita Mehta, an exceptional student of NLUJ. An epitome of excellence and diligence, Ms. Pranita had been a part of the CLS since its inception and was associated with the Society as an Adviser in 2016.

About the 6th Edition of the Competition:

This year, the themes of the competition revolve around extremely contemporary and interesting developments within the corporate law sphere, thereby providing students with wide scope for stimulating and innovative arguments.

1.    The topics are as follows:

  1. Code of Conduct for CoC: Fall of CoC Supremacy?
  2. The Zee-Sony Marriage: Concerns in Corporate Governance
  3. The Proposed “Promoter” to “Person in Control” Approach of SEBI: A Welcome Change?
  4. Section 29A of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016: Corporate Governance in the aftermath of CIRP
  5. Safe Harbour Protection Directive for E-Commerce Platforms: On the Touchstone of IT Rules
  6. Interplay between G7’s Global Minimum Corporate Tax Rate and Corporate Governance in India

2.    The prizes are as follows:

  1. Prize money:
    1. 1st Prize = Rs. 25,000
    2. 2nd Prize = Rs. 15,000
    3. 3rd Prize = Rs. 10,000
  2. Internship with IndusLaw: CLS is delighted to announce its association with IndusLaw as its Knowledge Partner for the Competition. The top 3 winners of the Competition will receive internship opportunities with IndusLaw.
  3. Publication with Journal on Corporate Law and Governance: CLS has collaborated with the well-reputed Journal on Corporate Law and Governance, which publishes on contemporary corporate law issues. JCLG will be exclusively publishing the winning essay of the Competition.
  4. Merit certificates: The top 10 essays will also receive merit certificates.

3.    Important Dates:

  1. Registration: Participants must register with CLS by 25th December, 2021. To register, click here.
  2. Submission: Participants must submit their essays to CLS by 9th January, 2021. To submit, click here.

4.    Submission Guidelines

  • Submission shall be made only in MS-Word format (.doc/.docx). PDF form shall not be accepted.
  • Formatting Guidelines:
  • Font and Size of Main Text and Footnote: Times New Roman, 12 Point for main text, and Times New Roman, 10 Point for footnotes.
  • Size and Alignment: A4 Size with 1 Inch Margin; all text except headings should be justified.
  • Footnoting: The participant has to adopt a uniform style of citation throughout the document.
  • Spacing: Submission should be 1.5 spaced (except footnotes which may be single spaced).
  • Word Limit: Word limit of the submission is 2000 – 3000 words (excluding abstract and footnotes). Abstract should not be more than 300 words.
  • Plagiarism: Any submission that is found to be plagiarized beyond 25% shall be disqualified from the competition.
  • Anonymity: Participant shall not include his/her name in the submission’s text in any form.
  • Co-Authorship: Co-authorship, up to two people, is allowed.
  • Any previously published entry would not be permitted.
  • Copyright of the submission shall remain with CLS.
  • In case of any conflicts, CLS shall be the final authority on the guidelines.
  • In case a participant is submitting an assignment/project, which has been submitted to their university’s Turnitin repository, CLS requires the participants to submit the associated
  • Turnitin report via email indicating that the plagiarism percent is less than 25%.
  • No registration fee is required to participate in the competition
