ILSA Chapter at Symbiosis Law School, Pune (SLS-P), is pleased to announce the “JURISTAS – International Law Essay Competition 2021.” 

Juristas International Law Essay Competition, 2020 received an extremely overwhelming response from students across the country. The successful conduct of the entire exercise was possible only due to the support and cooperation of the entire Symbiosis Law School family including the students who contributed immensely throughout the academic and administrative tasks of the project.

TOPICS

  • Pandemic Effects on Illegal Migrants in India – A Case for The NRC and The Illegal Immigrants Act, 1983
  • Statelessness and Climate Change – The Changing Dimensions of International Law and Relations in 21st Century
  • Issue of the Right to Self-Defense and Terrorism
  • Maritime and Admiralty Law vis a vis Chinese expansion in the South China Sea
  • Current Piracy Law and the Use of Force in the context of International Law

ELIGIBILITY

  • Participation is open to all the Undergraduate and Post-graduate Law Students enrolled in any institution in India and abroad. The participants must submit an attested copy of their Student Identity Card along with the Essay.
  • Co-authorship is allowed but is restricted to a maximum of two individuals per essay.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

  • All entries should be in Times New Roman, size 12 and line spacing 1.5
  • The Essay should not be less than 4500 words and not more than 6500 inclusive of all footnotes
  • The essay should be accompanied with a 250-word abstract which shall not be counted towards the word limit
  • All entries should contain footnote citations which should be in Times New Roman, size 10 and single line spacing
  • The footnote should conform to the system of citation specified in the Harvard Blue Book, 20th Edition
  • The use of end-notes and other citation methods is not permitted
  • All entries should include a cover page specifying name of the author, institutional affiliation, course and year of study, e-mail address, postal address and contact number
  • Any identifying information is not to be mentioned anywhere in the text of the essay and violation of the same shall lead to immediate disqualification
  • Submissions of entries shall be made in soft copies to: ilsaessay@symlaw.ac.in and subject of the mail should be “JURISTAS 2021”
  • The deadline for the submission of entries is 8th March, 2021
  • Paper must be original and unpublished work of the authors. The paper should not be under consideration for publication or in a contest elsewhere
  • Plagiarism of any nature will attract immediate disqualification
  • The organizers reserve the right to reject the entries that do not conform to the above-mentioned guidelines
  • Essays will be reviewed by aa distinguished panel of impartial Judges and Academicians
  • Essays will be judged anonymously
  • Plagiarism of up to 10 percent would be permitted

Second Prize Rs. 2000/-
Third Prize Rs. 1000/-

All students participating in the composition shall be issued participation certificates.

EVALUATION CRITERIA

The following are the criteria for marking and the marks allotted to each category:

Overall evaluation of the topic 20 Marks
Issues covered, their relevance and ingenuity of ideas 20 Marks
Flow and structure of essay 10 Marks
Legal content and use of authorities, references, etc. 25 Marks
Language 10 Marks
Originality, imagination, creative writing skills and clarity of thought 15 Marks
