On the occasion of National Constitution Day, Centre for Civil Society in association with Symbiosis Law School, NOIDA is launching 6 States Repeal Laws Compendium at the Constitution Club, New Delhi today i.e. November 26, 2018 at 03:00pm.

The launch will be followed by a panel discussion on the “Exploring Alternatives: Institutionalisation of Repeal of Laws.” The panelists include Ms Pinky Anand, Additional Solicitor General of India, Shri Colin Gonsalvis, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of India and Founder HRLN, Shri Hemant Batra, Founder and Chairman, Kaden Boriss Global, Shri Maneesh Chhibber, Executive Editor, DNA, Shri PK Malhotra, Former Law Secretary, Ministry of Law & Justice, Government of India, Shri Parth J Shah, President, Centre for Civil Society, Shri Satya Prakash, Legal Editor, The Tribune and Shri Tariq Ahmed, Former Union Minister.

About the Initiative

Centre of Civil Society (CCS) initiated the ‘Repeal of 100 Laws’ Project in 2014 with the aim to identify laws that could be repealed on account of three reasons – i) redundancy, ii) obsolescence in the face of new laws iii) hindrance to development, governance and freedom.

For the last phase of the Repeal of Laws Project, CCS reached out to 5 State Governments, to carry out extensive studies, in collaboration with esteemed law universities from each state. Under this phase in year 2017, the state compendiums were prepared in collaboration with Symbiosis Law School, NOIDA, Maharashtra National Law University- Mumbai, Hidyatullah National Law University-Raipur, National Laws School of India University- Bangalore and The National Academy of Legal Studies and Research- Hyderabad for the states of Uttar Pradesh, Maharahtra,  Chattisgarh, Karnataka and Telangana respectively.

This year, Repeal of Laws Initiative Phase III covered following six states by respective Law Schools: Assam: Symbiosis Law School, NOIDA; Gujarat: Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar; Meghalaya: The National Academy of Legal Studies & Research, Hyderabad; Mizoram & Tripura: National Law School of India University, Bangalore; Jammu & Kashmir: Jammu University.

Dr. Neeti Shikha, Associate Professor, Symbiosis Law School, NOIDA has been the National Coordinator for the said project. Team Symbiosis Law School, NOIDA was led by Mr. Ankur Sharma, Project Coordinator (State of Assam), Mr. Karan Gulati, Mr. Anubhav Chakravorty (Fourth Year Learners), Ms. Shrishti Borthakur (Third Year Learner), Mr. Maharishi Bharali, Mr. Utkarsa Kumar Gupta (Second Year Learners), and Ms. Alexandra Celestine (Fifth Year Learner).
