On 03.07.2015, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry issued a notification to constitute the Council for Trade Development and Promotion with immediate effect.

The term of reference for the Council is as follows:

  • provide a platform to State Governments and UTs for articulating their perspectives on trade policy;  
  • provide a platform to Government of India for apprising State Governments and UTs about international developments affecting India’s trade potential and opportunities and to prepare them to deal with evolving situation;
  • help State Governments develop and pursue export strategies in line with national Foreign Trade Policy;
  • provide a platform for deliberation on the need for infrastructure developments to fill the gaps which adversely affect India’s exports etc.

The Council shall comprise of Chairperson and several other members, and shall meet atleast once every year at Delhi or anywhere in the country.
