No More Paperwork: Maharashtra enables online registration of partnership firms

Indian Partnership (Maharashtra Amendment) Act

On 20 July 2026, the Maharashtra Government notified the Indian Partnership (Maharashtra Amendment) Act, 2026, amending the Indian Partnership Act, 1932 in its application to the State of Maharashtra.

The Amendment aims to modernise the registration framework for partnership firms in Maharashtra by promoting digital filing, electronic verification and online access to records, thereby simplifying regulatory compliance and improving ease of doing business.

Key Highlights:

  1. The Amendment Act substitutes Section 58 of the Indian Partnership Act, 1932, to provide for online registration of partnership firms through the prescribed official website.

  2. Registration applications will be required to be filed electronically in the prescribed form along with payment of fees through the online mode.

  3. The registration statement is required to contain the following particulars of the firm:

    • Firm name, PAN and e-mail address;

    • Nature of business;

    • Principal place of business;

    • Details of other places where the firm carries on business;

    • Date on which each partner joined the firm;

    • Full names, permanent addresses, e-mail addresses and mobile numbers of all partners; and

    • Duration of the firm

  4. The statement is required to be digitally signed by all partners or their duly authorised agents, and the prescribed supporting documents are required to be uploaded online on the official website.

  5. The amendment to Section 59 requires the Registrar to digitally record registration of the firm upon being satisfied that the requirements of the Act have been complied with.

  6. The Act also amends Section 67 to permit issuance of certified copies of entries in the Register of Firms through online or offline mode.
