On 26-2-26, Supreme Court Collegium has taken a policy decision to transfer Judges proposed to be appointed as Chief Justices of High Courts well in advance of the arising vacancy, with the objective of improving institutional efficiency and administrative continuity.
The Collegium has resolved that a Judge recommended to assume charge as Chief Justice should preferably be transferred around two months prior to the vacancy, enabling the recommendee to become familiar with the functioning, administrative structure, and requirements of the concerned High Court before formally assuming office.
Pursuant to this policy decision, the Collegium has recommended the transfer of Justice Lisa Gill, presently a Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, to the Andhra Pradesh High Court, along with her appointment as Chief Justice of that High Court from the date the vacancy arises.
