The Sports Committee of School of Law, KIIT Deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar has organized a “Roundtable Discussion on the New Sports Law in India — 2025,” which drew wide participation from students and faculty. The event served as an interactive platform for analysing the implications of the newly enacted legislation on sports governance, athletes’ rights, and regulatory mechanisms.
The Guest of Honour, Prof. Dr. Manmohan Rout, Professor Emeritus, KIIT School of Sports & Yogic Sciences, delivered an insightful address, stressing the need for a transparent and accountable framework to safeguard the interests of athletes and promote integrity in sports. He highlighted the importance of law in ensuring fair play, combating doping, and addressing commercialization challenges in the sporting arena.
Law students actively contributed to the discussion, pointing out several loopholes and shortcomings in the law, such as the lack of uniform grievance redressal mechanisms, weak enforcement measures, and inadequate safeguards for grassroots athletes. They also offered practical solutions, ranging from stricter monitoring of sports bodies to stronger provisions for gender equality and athlete welfare.
The event, judged by experts, encouraged critical engagement and innovative thinking. At the conclusion, the following students were awarded positions for their contributions:
