Constitution of Medical Boards in Delhi

On 14-08-2024, the Directorate of Family Welfare notified the constitution of Medical Boards in the National Capital Territory of Delhi by the President. These Medical Boards have been constituted by exercising powers under Section 3(2C) of the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, 1971 read with Section 45-D(b) of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi Act, 1991. This notification came into force on 14-08-2024.

Key Points:

  1. The Medical Board has to have at least one member who is a woman.

  2. If a Board member is unavailable when a case is being discussed, he/she must be substituted with another member by the Chairperson.

  3. The Chairperson/Members must be from the hospital concerned. However, in case of a vacant category, a Member from the nearby Government hospital may be co-opted.

Following is a list of the hospitals wherein the Medical Boards are to be constituted along with the structure of the same:

  • List of Hospitals:

    1. Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital

    2. Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital

    3. Indira Gandhi Hospital

    4. Maharishi Valmiki Hospital

  • Structure of the Medical Board:

    1. HoD Obstetrics & Gynae or any Sr. Doctor would be the Chairperson;

    2. Pediatrician/Neonatologist would be a Member;

    3. Radiologist/Ultrasonologist/Fetal medicine specialist/Genetics would be a Member;

    4. Any other specialist as per the requirement of the case would be a Member;

    5. Medical Superintendent/administrative officer nominated by MS would be a Convener;

    6. For a private hospital Medical Board, a member from a government hospital should be nominated to be a Member.
