MNLU Mumbai’s Centre for Training and Research in Commercial Regulations (CTRCR) in collaboration with the National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM) is launching a course on ‘Basics of Accounting and Securities Analysis for Lawyers’. It shall be an Online Certificate Course to be conducted from 6th January to 10th February, 2024.
Course Objective:
This course focuses to make law students conversant with the basic principles in accounting and securities analysis that are critical in understanding the rationale for regulatory compliances.
Course Outcome:
At the completion of this course the participants would learn:

How to read annual report of the company, particularly, the financial statements of the company

How to analyze the securities, particularly, equity shares

What are the valuation methods in general, and their respective application

Course Duration:

Minimum 15 hours to start with (1 credit).

Online classes of 3 hours will be scheduled on Saturdays.

Mostly online classes (however first and last session may be scheduled at Mumbai-BKC office of NISM)
Course Instructor:
The course will be delivered by NISM faculty. The lead faculty would be Dr. Jinesh Panchali. He has more than 30 years of experience in academics, consulting, and academic administration. Dr. Jinesh is MBA with specialisation in Finance, Ph.D. in Management (from Faculty of Management Studies, M.S. University of Baroda), and a CMA (from Institute of Cost Accountants of India). He has taught courses in area of Finance and Strategy, like, M&A, corporate finance, corporate valuation, and corporate restructuring at various IIMs and institutions of national repute. He has previously worked at the Indian Institute of Capital Markets, and also served as the Head of Knowledge Management subsidiary of Financial Technology Group. Prior to joining NISM, he operated a proprietary advisory firm, Arham Advisors.
Grading:
Assessment would be as under:

Mid-term exam (after 15 hours) – MCQ test (50 marks)

End-term exam – Assignment / Case study (50 marks)
Awarding Certificate:

Candidates eligible for an award of it, shall get a Certificate jointly issued by the Vice-Chancellor, MNLU-M and Director, NISM.
Instruction Method:
Classes would be conducted through Google Classroom/ WebEx Platform and in-house studio facility of the partners. Students are expected to regularly visit the course web page, as important information may be uploaded there. Presentation and suggested readings would be uploaded there regularly. Furthermore, assignments would also be posted there. Significant student interaction and meaningful participation is expected in each class. The course will have periodical quizzes, discussions on case-studies, group works, workshops, presentations and discussions on contemporary issues.
Attendance:
An attendance of 75% is mandatory to qualify for appearing in the End-Term Examination. The UG Program Regulations of MNLU Mumbai will be applicable to the minimum marks required for the issuance of certificate, and disqualification of candidate due to lack of adequate attendance.
