About the Institute:

Symbiosis Law School (SLS) Nagpur, inspired by Dr. S.B. Mujumdar’s vision and the Vedic ideal ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,’ offers innovative legal education. As part of Symbiosis International University, its strategic location in Maharashtra’s educational hub provides opportunities for aspiring lawyers. SLS Nagpur nurtures legal excellence with integrated law programs and an LL.M. curriculum enriched by a dedicated faculty and research culture. About NHRC:

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of India, established on October 12, 1993, is a pivotal institution dedicated to the protection and promotion of human rights in the country. It derives its authority from the Protection of Human Rights Act (PHRA), 1993, which was subsequently amended by the Protection of Human Rights (Amendment) Act, 2006, and the Protection of Human Rights (Amendment) Act, 2019. This statutory framework empowers the NHRC to enforce human rights within the nation. The NHRC’s formation is based on the Paris Principles of Human Rights, adopted in 1991 to advance and preserve human rights. These principles received endorsement from the United Nations through its Resolution 48/134 during the General Assembly in 1993, laying the foundation for the establishment of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).

About the Competition:

The National Moot Court Competition on Human Rights and Constitutional Law stands as a beacon in the legal landscape, serving as a platform for passionate legal enthusiasts to delve into the intricate and pressing issues pertaining to human rights and constitutional law. It is an arena where participants are encouraged and inspired to critically analyze contemporary legal challenges, nurturing a deeper understanding of the principles underpinning human rights and promoting widespread awareness of constitutional norms. Through this competition, Symbiosis Law School, Nagpur, aims to cultivate a generation of legal professionals and scholars equipped with meticulous legal research, critical analysis, persuasive writing, and eloquent oral advocacy skills. These skills transcend the boundaries of the traditional academic curriculum, providing practical knowledge that is indispensable in the real world of legal practice.

Timeline:

  • Release of Moot Proposition: 10th November 2023

  • Last Date for Provisional Registration: 4th January 2024

  • Last Date for Memorial Submission: 15th January 2024

  • Result of Memorial Rounds: 17th January 2024

  • Last Date for Final Registration: 25th January 2024

  • Oral Rounds: 9th February to 11th February 2024

Theme: Prisoners’ Rights

Eligibility:

  • Students duly enrolled and pursuing full time 5 years or 3 years undergraduate law course may apply to participate in this ‘competition’.

  • Students enrolled and pursuing post-graduate diploma or short- term certificate courses in law are not eligible to apply.

  • Students from any University/Department/Institute not recognised by the Bar Council of India, to impart law degrees are not eligible to apply.

Team Composition:

  • A team may consist of either two (2) or three (3) members.

  • A team of two members shall include two speakers only and one of them shall act as a researcher for the purposes of Researcher’s Test.

  • A team of three members shall include two speakers and one researcher.

  • All members of a team should belong to the same institution.

Registration Procedure:

  • Teams must provisionally register themselves by 4th January 2024.

  • The following registration form containing complete details of all team members shall be filled by the participating teams through Registration Form

  • Participation in oral rounds of the teams in the Moot Court Competition is subject to the selection of Memorial. Only upon the communication of the selection of the memorial from the Organizers shall the participants complete the Final registration and pay Rs. 5000 as the registration fees.

  • The link of payment for the selected 20 teams will be notified to the after the release of the results of the Memorial Rounds.

  • Only those teams that successfully qualify for the Memorial Submission will proceed to the Oral Rounds.

Prizes and Awards:

  • Best Team: Rs. 40,000/- + Trophy + Certificate of Merit

  • Runner-up Team: Rs. 30,000/- + Trophy + Certificate of Merit

  • Best Speaker (Male & Female): Rs. 10,000/- + Trophy + Certificate of Merit + One year access to EBC Learning worth Rs. 14,500 each.

  • Best Memorial (Applicant & Respondent): Rs. 10,000/- + Trophy + Certificate of Merit each.

  • Best Researcher: Rs. 10,000/- + Trophy + Certificate of Merit + One year access to EBC Learning worth Rs. 14,500.
