National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR) is pleased to invite registrations for the 4th NALSAR Public International Law Moot Court Competition scheduled to be held on January 19-21, 2024.

The objective of this Moot Court Competition is to stir up research and thinking on emerging issues in public international law. The first three editions of the competition have seen participation from more than 60 teams from some of the best law schools in the country. In this edition, we are targeting participation from 80-90 teams, culminating in hosting the top 24 teams on campus for the oral rounds.

Eligibility Criteria

The Competition is open to students currently enrolled in LL.B. Undergraduate

Degree Courses or LL.M. Postgraduate Degree Courses across the world.

The competition shall be conducted at NALSAR, Hyderabad.

General Rules

  • A team is not permitted to have members from more than one institution.

  • More than one team from one institution can register, provided all such teams register individually.

  • Teams may comprise a minimum of two members and maximum of three members, wherein two members shall perform the role of a speaker, and one member shall perform the role of a researcher.

  • The swapping of the speaker with the researcher may be allowed only with the permission of the court.

  • The substitution of any Team Member is not allowed after the registration deadline except in extenuating circumstances and only with permission of the Organizers.

  • The language of the competition shall be English; all oral and written submissions are required to be made in English.

  • The Competition shall comprise two stages wherein in the first stage shall be based on memo evaluation. This will determine the 24 teams which will proceed to Stage II consisting of Researcher’s Test and Oral Rounds.

  • At the time of online registration, the teams must choose a primary contact person. The said person shall be responsible for conveying all the relevant information by the Organizers.

  • The teams shall have to make a payment of 6500/-.

  • The fee for the competition shall be paid via online transfer (NEFT) mentioned below. After payment of the fee, the candidate/team must attach the details of the same in the registration form. The Overseas team must inform the bank to transfer the required amount in INR to the Bank Account below-

  • For National teams, payment has to be made to:

    • Name of the Beneficiary- Registrar, NALSAR

  • For Overseas team, payment has to be made to:

  • The team will also be provided with a Team Code; at any stage of the competition, a team must be identified only by the allotted team code.

  • Prior payment of Registration Fees is required in order to fill the Final Registration Form. The provisional registration shall be confirmed by sending an email to the respective committee or head/dean of the institution.

Important Dates

  • Release of Proposition- October 30, 2023.

  • Last date for seeking clarifications- November 10, 2023.

  • Release of clarifications- November 15, 2023.

  • Registration closes- November 25, 2023.

  • Memo Submission- december 07, 2023.

  • Release of memo results- December 30, 2023.

  • Competition commences- January 19, 2024.

Awards

  • Winning Team- The winning team shall receive a trophy and a cash prize of INR 50,000.

  • Runners-Up Team- The runners-up team shall receive a trophy and a cash prize of INR 25,000.

  • Best Speaker- The best speaker shall receive a trophy and a cash prize of INR 10,000.

  • Best Memorial for Applicants- The Applicants team with the best memorial shall receive a trophy and a cash prize of INR 10,000.

  • Best Memorial for Defendants- The Defendants Team with the best memorial shall receive a trophy and a cash prize of INR 10,000.

  • Best researcher- The best researcher shall receive a trophy and a cash prize of INR 10,000.
