menstrual leave policy

NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad has officially introduced a menstrual leave policy for students of all academic programmes (LLB, LLM, IPM and MBA) on campus. This initiative was spearheaded by the Menstrual Leave Policy Group (MPLG), composed entirely of students, to ensure access to education while taking care of one’s menstrual health.

The Honourable Vice Chancellor, faculty and administration unanimously approved the Menstrual Leave Policy proposed by the Students on 5th October, 2023. As per this Policy, the menstruating students of the University will be eligible for one day leave in every working month of a Semester/Trimester without any requirement of proof from the Medical Officer by way of self declaration. This policy can be availed from the next academic semester.

NALSAR and MLPG intend to further awareness on menstrual health by organising workshops, sensitization programs and talks by gynaecologists and health care specialists for the benefit of menstruating students in the upcoming year. A Menstrual Leave Committee shall also be constituted that will progressively suggest amendments and coordinate between stakeholders and the administration
