About the Session
Sama is hosting a virtual session with Ivana Ninčić Österle, Executive Director of the International Mediation Institute (IMI), The Hague.
India has set up its Mediation Council. Notified on 27 August 2026 under the Mediation Act, 2023, it is mandated to register mediators, set standards for their certification and ethics, and promote mediation.
IMI is based in The Hague, and was established in 2007 to set internationally applicable quality standards for mediators and an international mediator credentialing scheme, and it continues to work with mediator credentialing institutions around the world.
The session brings these two together. Ivana will share what the Mediation Council of India can take away from IMI’s experience of setting standards and credentialing mediators across jurisdictions.
For mediators, institutions, and law students, it is a chance to hear how standards, certification and ethics are approached internationally, as India’s Council takes shape.
