The Centre for Constitution and Public Policy (CCPP), UILS, Panjab University, organised a special lecture on “Law, Ethics and Political Leadership” on September 21, 2026, delivered by Dr. Lobsang Sangay, Lecturer at Harvard Law School, Senior Visiting Fellow at the East Asian Legal Studies Program and former President (Sikyong) of the Central Tibetan Administration.
Dr. Sangay addressed several weighty questions concerning morality and compassion, democratic values and the evolving role of law in shaping public leadership, engaging the audience throughout with wit and warmth that kept the session light and spirited despite the depth of the subject matter. Drawing from his own life journey, he recounted having been raised in a family of modest means before relocating to Delhi to pursue his education, where he was responsible for financing his own tuition, and drew a poignant comparison between the hardships he encountered and the relative privilege enjoyed by many students today. The session was highly interactive, with students thoroughly enjoying the opportunity to engage with him directly and ask questions.
The event was organised under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Shruti Bedi, Director, UILS, Prof. (Dr.) Virender Negi and Asst. Prof. (Dr.) Nidhi Sharma, along with student members Aryaman Setia, Nupur Sanghi, Prasha Bhatia, Prini Datta, Snigdha Chauhan and Vanya Monga.
