On 20 May 2026, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting notified the Cinematograph (Certification) Amendment Rules, 2026 to amend the Cinematograph (Certification) Rules, 2024. The provisions came into force on 22 May 2026.

Rule 33 relating to “Fees” has been revised and the following provision has been removed:
“Application under the priority scheme may be made upon payment of 3 times the fee payable for examination of the film as per sub-rule (1) of Rule 33, for scheduling examination of a film preferably within five days, subject to available slots as decided by Central Board of Film Certification.”.

Rule 37 relating to “Time limit in relation to certification of films” has been revised and the provision relating to priority scheme has been removed:
“Provided that the Regional Officer may on receipt of request from any applicant and on payment of examination fee under Rule 33 as per the priority scheme, following the order of receipt of priority application, alter the order of examination of the film.”.
